Either you have a blown head gasket or a leaking oil cooler (if you
have a turbo).

Leaking head gasket allows oil to bypass under or over the gasket
from the oil galleries/passageways into the nearby coolant passages/
galleries.

Eventually, if it is a leaking head gasket, car will overheat, score
the cylinder walls and ruin the engine (don't ask me how I personally
know this, it will embarass me).

If it is a bad head gasket, you just need to bite the bullet and
replace it along with new stretch, head bolts.

Gasket failure is pretty common, particularly in the diesels being
run in the Westies - lots of weight, low power, too much heat. You
could try adding an external oil cooler to keep engine temps down.

Just my view from this side of the Sahara (Texas, 107 degrees
