[Vwdiesel] Thought on "engine dies when cold start knob is pushed in" problem

  Is that possibly an '86 --> pump?  The idle speed could be set low 
enough or messed up a bit such that pushing the cold start knob 
not only retards the timing back but also drops the idle too low to 
keep running???  Only logical thing I could come up with.  It just 
kind of hit me on the way home today.
