I don't know what the collective wisdom on the list is, but I've always
heard / read / experienced that ether is the last thing you want to use.
It strips off the lubrication from the cylinder walls, increases wear, and
generally wreaks havoc.
Try WD-40: explosive as hell, and lubricates at the same time. Works for
me.
