[Vwdiesel] O-ring seal in FI pump - fixed!

I'd like to thank all that replied to my request for advice regarding my
fuel leak/spray out of the gap between the pump body and rear distributor
block in my 1980. 1.5 Rabbit diesel in my shop genset. The concensus was
that I should be able to replace it myself with the pump on the engine by
slipping the new O-ring over the block.

Yesterday I was able to get the correct Bosch o-ring from a diesel injector
and FI pump service facility I dealt with once before on my Petter injector.
At $6.00 each these were pricey little bastards. I bought two in case I
damaged one but fortunately was successful the first try. Just careful and
high attention to a clean work area.

I kept one bolt in at all times allowing the inards to come out only far
enough to expose the o-ring channel. The tech at the injector shop asked if
I was going to do it 'in the car'. He advised that I really ought to remove
the pump so I could sit it on it's pulley end down to keep the internal
parts from falling out. He is an expert yes, but not an experienced
hillbilly.

Thanx for the good advice guys! Job done and a complete success! The
engine is getting a test run now as I type.

Rob
