On the weekend I replaced the starter, it now turns over at normal speed all the time, but still no difference in starting problem...
It still takes about 10 - 15 seconds of turning over ,only spits a puff of smoke out the tail pipe whenever I feel it buck, then smoke when it finally starts up, then very little smoke - idling smooth, when engine is warm, only takes 2 - 3 turns to start.
New filter, lines to and from filter, rebuilt head and, injectors were serviced before I bought it.
I did notice that the timing belt looks a little glazed, and it is too tight ,which someone mentioned can wear out a pump (I can't even get close to twisting the belt 45 degrees).
If I loosen it to specs. will I have to do the timing like the manual says ??, I don't want to make it worse, I have set timing in the past sucessfully with a micrometer ,but I don't have a micrometer now.

--Is it possible the pump is drawing air through a internal seal somehow, or not coming up to high enough pressure until it heats up from - eg.- friction ,seals expanding...
