  I would suspect part of it is to regroup.  I believe Dad said he'd read 
that 
all next year's MBs will beat '07 (or later?) emission standards.  Supposedly 

they're going to bring diesels back in heavy and several Chrysler products 
are supposed to as well.  Hopefully VW is simply taking a year off to 
regroup and come back heavy.  Of course we thought that back in '87 too.
