Subject: [VW-TDI] 150000 milestone
Well my 98 reached the 150000 mile mark last Sunday, 90000 of it my
own. Since this is such a momentous occasion, I figured I would sit
down and figure out what I have purchased to keep the car on the road
(not including oil and diesel). So my list looks like this:
2 sets of tires (second set I went to 15" wheels and tires the old
14" wheels and tires are on my Caddy)
2 sets of brake pads/shoes
1 set of drums and 1 set of discs
2 sets of struts and shocks (first set was a used set from a GLI so I
could get stiffer springs, just replaced them last week)
1 N75 valve
1 turbo (see my web page for what a turbo looks like when they come
apart at speed)
4 turbo oil supply lines and 4 oil supply line brackets (guess what
happens to the supply line when the bracket breaks?)
4 fuel filters
9 oil filters
2 timing belts, serpentine belts, tensioners and V belts
2 intake cleanings (60000 and 120000 at the same time as timing belt)
1 K&N air filter
1 glow plug harness
1 glow plug relay
4 glow plugs
4 injectors (didn't really need to replace them but I got a good deal
on new ones)
1 diesel geek oversized oil cooler
1 set of Wetteraur speed chips
about 10 feet of vacuum hose
1 drivers side head light assembly
full set of gauges - boost, EGR and oil temp
removed EGR cooler due to fractured exhaust flex pipe fittings now
runs like a 1Z
and probably a few other things if I thought about it!
Car still runs great, averages 34-36 mpg in my short run back and
forth to work and mid 40's on the highway. I normally run biodiesel
but have lost my methanol supplier so lately I have been running a
50/50 mix of filtered WVO and diesel. Actually gets better mpg than
on biodiesel. Car has been through 2 Texas hailstorms so it is a
bit ugly but it still serves it purpose. I am hoping to keep it up
and running so that I can take delivery of a 2008 CDI Jetta in the
Fall of 07 or spring of 08. Hayden
