[Vwdiesel] very leaky driveshaft seal

  Your other tranny should pretty well direct swap but it's 
wise to compare the letter codes and see how comparable 
the innards are.  (Or is an A3 tranny a cable shift???)
  You may just have a leaking seal, you may have sloppy 
CV joint flang/flanges also.  If it's wobbly then you'll need 
a new flange/s when you do the new seal and you'll need 
the center plugs also. 
 Drop the CV joint, pop the plug, make a "puller" that pulls 
on the center shaft while pressing against the flange.  Remove 
the snap ring, release the puller.  Pull the flange, pry out the 
seal.  Tap in a new seal (grease the lip) put in the good old 
flange or a new one (BTW I need a couple good ones for my 
'80 Rabbit if anybody has a couple good ones kicking around.)
Put the puller back on, replace the snap ring, tap in a new plug 
and reinstall the CV joint.  :-)  Sealer on the outside, friction seal 
areas of the plug and seal isn't a bad idea.
