Your other tranny should pretty well direct swap but it's
wise to compare the letter codes and see how comparable
the innards are. (Or is an A3 tranny a cable shift???)
You may just have a leaking seal, you may have sloppy
CV joint flang/flanges also. If it's wobbly then you'll need
a new flange/s when you do the new seal and you'll need
the center plugs also.
Drop the CV joint, pop the plug, make a "puller" that pulls
on the center shaft while pressing against the flange. Remove
the snap ring, release the puller. Pull the flange, pry out the
seal. Tap in a new seal (grease the lip) put in the good old
flange or a new one (BTW I need a couple good ones for my
'80 Rabbit if anybody has a couple good ones kicking around.)
Put the puller back on, replace the snap ring, tap in a new plug
and reinstall the CV joint. :-) Sealer on the outside, friction seal
areas of the plug and seal isn't a bad idea.
