Yup. It's real. That's why I pulled the voltage regulator, and checked
the brushes. They were OK, but there was corosion on the rings. I
got interrupted several times by impatient family members and forgot to
check the rings for continuity. I did clean them up.

I talked to ebahn, since I had to transfer the SW from one work laptop
to a home laptop to use it, this time. They pushed the upgrade and
told me it would be some amount of money ($30??). I declined. I'm
that dissatisfied with the CDROM version.

James, it seems like a big deal. The alternator is situated between a
power steering pump (hard connections) on the top, and an AC compressor
on the bottom. It's either hydraulic fluid containment, or it's hanging
the compressor by the hoses, and working from the bottom in the rain.
The belt adjustment on an A2 is a small nuisance when you consider that
it takes 4 minutes to pull an alternator on an A2 with PS and AC.
The final issue in swapping the voltage regulator, is that I can't find
one. I spent 90 minutes searching the parts places on the web, after
exhausting the locals first.
