[Vwdiesel] Waterpumps Who has Cast?

At least on the TDI engines, I can state with confidence that the plastic vaned water pumps are $%&*.  I had to rip the engine apart (the water pump is under the really obnoxious to remove timing belt) 5,000 miles after installing a brand new one.  I put a cast iron one in its place.  If I wanted a stamped steel one, I'd cut open a soup can on my own.
