[Vwdiesel] HELP - WHEEL FELL OFF !!!

It's no wonder that happened, you didn't have a proper front bumper.
Andrew
PS On the older ones (eurovans are probably similar) the drive flange is
held on by a circlip. The cv bolts to the drive flange and at the wheel is
held on by the center nut. With the balljoint (lower connection point of
strut) done there is nothing holding the bottom of the wheel in place. It
then splays out and pulls quite hard on the driveshaft. It would certainly
pull hard enough to remove the circlip. Likely the slot that the circlip
goes around in the shaft of the differential will be damaged. Make sure
they replace the drive flange seal. I say that because that happened to me
on a Dodge Caravan and the garage said that they "didn't replace the seal
'cause it didn't look damaged". My retort of "But the driveshaft
was yanked out of the transmission violently causing the splines of the
shaft to be jammed into the seal by the weight of the vehicle resting on it"
was met by "don't you try to accuse us of doing shoddy work". That was one
of my earlier dealings with "pros" that spurred me on to never let anyone
else touch my vehicles. That and breaking an adapter rated at 400 ft lbs
trying to get off one of the lugnuts that they had torqued on... AARGH.
Thanks for the stumbling down memory lane... Hope you get it worked out.
