If there has been any oil to coolant leakage, then there would be enough 
black sludge pumped around in the cooling system, that bypassing the cooler 
without doing a coolant flush and refill would be pointless, IMO.  How would you 
tell if it was old oil or new?  The only way I know of to positively determine if 
the cooler is leaking is to remove it and pressure test it.
