[Vwdiesel] 85 Jetta TD speedometer failure

You could always put your Laptop on the passenger seat and use a GPS.

Much easier would be to change out the speedometer, not a difficult task.
You can use the speedo from a gas or a diesel, they're the same. When you
take your apart you'll see how to change it. I recently did it in an 86
Jetta, if I can help, let me know.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] 85 Jetta TD speedometer failure

My 85 Jetta TD speedometer is failing. It won't show any speed above 20 mph,
and sometimes the needle bobs around. My mechanic says he thinks the
speedometer head is kaput.

I have on a shelf in my garage the dash and speedo/tachometer module from my
departed 84 Jetta na diesel, but no experience swapping such elements.

Anybody know about OTHER ways to display speed that get around such a
problem? "engle31 at comcast.net" and Hayden have been posting about
dash-swapping. Maybe they will read this and chime in.

How do people who build modified cars/hot rods display speedometer
information? Could I mount a generic speedometer head on my dash and run a
speedometer cable to it? Anybody done that? I'd like to get some speedometer
information working before I end up with another speeding citation.
