The speedo is probably the easist to replace, next to the illumination bulbs
(which are not that eas to do, just getting the cluster out is the worst pat
of the game)
I have several clusters from A2's, could probably spare one, but they are
Kalibrated in Kilometers as Kommanded by our government.
We may also need to know the color of the gear at the tranny end of the
cable (almost surely white in an 85 Jetta
The clusters are not that hard to get out of wrecks at the junkyard, and the
speedo as a hunit, only needs a few screws removed to change it.
I think when they changed the transmision ratio (89,90) the gear color on
the cable went to red or green, the speedo probably stayed the same.
