[Vwdiesel] priming the Audi

Well I spent some time this weekend on the '80 Audi diesel, trying to get it
started. As Loren and others suggested I poured fuel in the top of the inj.
pump at the return line fitting. This definitely did some good, as I could
actually get the car to get started, but it would repeatedly die out after a
few good seconds of revving. I could see fuel bubbles in the clear line
from the filter to the inj. pump. So it seems that there is an air leak
somewhere inbetween the fuel tank and the fuel filter.
All of the fuel lines seem to be in decent shape, clamped down and what
not. The fuel filter is brand new. I'm wondering where the air is coming
in. Is there a fuel screen in the tank that could get clogged?
When the car was starting this weekend, i could hear a strange glug, glug,
glug sound coming from the fuel tank, as return air/fuel was returning to
the fuel tank.
