If the system is charged then the evaporator should be fine.
When they're bad they leak, when they leak the system's not
charged.
Control switch? There's a high temp cutoff switch, fan relay,
fan switch inside the car... Depending on factory or dealer
installed there's a temp switch or it's tied into the heater
system where there's no temp control other than mixing hot
air with it. The fan as well as the directional control can
have on/off control in most cases. There's a high pressure
switch, but that's usually for high speed on the fan, a low
pressure switch that cuts out the system.
It's a matter of a wiring diagram and chasing power until it
stops or no-power back to the culprit.
