SUGGESTION:If there's no holes in it, I'd just clean it up and paint it,
personally. Thought my 5Ktd one was toast because the stainless braid area
was all collapsed and kinked. Cleaned all the dirt out, wiggled it a
little and it looked good as a few years old! :-)

CONCLUSION: Loren's "Painting" and "braided" implied the question of what
kind of paint and what kind of braiding......and "high-temp epoxy" came to
mind. Prepare the surface with a brass Dremel brush, treat the clean bare
metal with phosphoric acid etch, and wrap the line with epoxy-pasted fine
wire window screen , cut into quarter-inch wide strips. This would cure up
as a laminated tube. The laminates would have different rates of
expansion when the turbo heats up, so there is a risk/probability of
cracking in the epoxy bond between the various metals. But maybe the
little islands of bonded material would reinforce the areas of the original
tube that were weakened by corrosion over the 22 years of use, and prevent
further corrosion over the ?? years that the Jetta has left.

Sounds like a plan. Gonna try it this morning.

Thanks again for bouncing the ideas around. Doyt
