Thanks for the replies!

We used dust masks, but still sneezing.  Don't know if it's the cold weather 
or platinum.

So, we arc-ed thru more of the cat and removed it from the car.  The front 
side of the catalyst appeared ok, but the back side was melted.  It looked 
like silver solder had been splattered about.  We then tried to punch the 
catalyst/matrix out, but it didn't want to break-up at all.  It more so 
folded - like it was some wadded-up window screen.  We put the arc welder 
and acetelyne on it and made an oven out of the cat.  Eventually most of the 
catalyst burned away.  Reinstalled.  Car drives better, but I've got to 
wonder if the mufflers are plugged too.  At idle, you don't feel a FLOW of 
hot exhaust at the tailpipe, just that it's there.  Hmm...
