  I'd jack up the corners and spin the tires.  Sounds like a tire 
starting to seperate more than a CV joint to me.  It'll have a 
bubble in the tread if it is.  Outer CV joints almost always 
clack and increase when turning (and usually have a torn 
boot to go with it.)  Inners...  Never have had a bad inner.
