  I dunno.   Dad had a'79 5.7 diesel and got 70K trouble 
free miles out of it before the other two brothers decided 
to sell it in the local paper without telling him.  He was 
planning to keep it and just put a new 5.7 in it for lots of 
trouble free miles.  Stories are pretty consistent that the 
later ones WERE pretty dependable, 200K to 300K miles 
dependable.  His only problem was with the pump itself.

  The 6.2 is still the best engine for economy in a full size 
pickup it seems.  There were weak ones, more than there 
should have been but overall, I'd be heavily inclined to use 
one of them over a 6.5, mostly for mpg reasons.
