I am pretty sure Nick also found his air box to be
that of a Gas Jetta, the size of the filter is that of
a gas jetta, not the standard 1.6 diesel air filter
size. So, I am guessing all later year Jetta diesel
have this air box.
Question about my air box and a pre-heat feature.
My air box has a vacuum flapper on it that I guess is
designed to stop the outside air from coming in until
a temp is reached and then the vacuum is released and
the flapper returns to allow cold air to come in.
While the flapper is actuated by vacuum, it pulls air
from a metal snorkal that is rivited onto the back of
the air box and goes back towards the exhaust manifold
and turbo to grab the fastest heat.
Does anyone have ETKA drawing on this box to show how
the flow of vacuum is supposed to work and what temp
is needed for the vacuum to be released and return the
flap to cut off the hot air and pull front grill air
from the front of the box instead?
Thanks, Bryan
PS. I know the car will run without this, as my
flapper was stuck but I have now got it working again.
