  In early summer I noticed my Rabbit slightly loosing power.  
I was getting concerned what with it being a fairly new engine.  
(This was a few years ago.)  Finally for some reason I'd pulled 
the air filter and blew it out.  It was surprisingly dirty!  Full power 
was restored.  It had less than 10K miles on it as well.  It was 
late spring though so lots of road dust from the winter snow and 
ice patrol/control.  A fair amount of sand and dust as well as the 
necessary salt dust, the de-icer dust and so on.  I was really 
surprised as well.
