Seems a feasible idea William. As power is proportional to veee squared over 
arrr you would be running @ a fifth power of the UK rating so a 2kw element 
is shifting a mere 400w. No  feer of frying. Maybe black body effects mean 
you get 500w???  No fryiing of oil whilst immersed anyway! Take a look at a 
chip fryer ['ollluks] french fries :op All oxidation (jelling) takes place 
on or above the surface of the pan....
