[Vwdiesel] Volvo Diesels

Hi,
The Volvo diesels Were/are called the D-24 and were basically just our Jetta
engines with two more Cylinders tacked on. The problem I have been told was
that the engines supposedly were not driven/warmed up long enough for the
oil to fully circulate. They did make a turbo version of it too though. They
used this engine in their 200 and 700 series cars, but was not popular
enough for them to keep it in the line perhaps. Volvo has diesels again -
inline five - transverse in the V -70 series and also the smaller V-50/S-40
, cars but only in Europe at for time being.

Yes, that is what the tach has in it. I added a shot
of it to the webshots page with the VW parts for sale.

I think the fairest option would be for me to take
"bids" for it and just sell it to the one who offers
the most.
I also do have pigtails for it in case your wiring
harness is different and you need to splice.

Good idea, except I was talking about the gaskets that are made of rubber
and metal, not the cork ones. I'd rather change the studs than the gasket
with this one. Thanks, though!

Perhaps this topic belongs under some other heading. I was interested in
buying a used Volvo diesel a few years ago but didn't. However I was given
the following info but can't guarantee how accurate it is. 1)Volvo, during
the early '80s when they imported diesels to the USA, used VW 6 cylinder
truck diesel engines. 2) I heard, but don't know how true this was, that
these VW truck diesels needed an overhaul about every 130,000 miles or
200,000 kilometers. For my own knowledge, I would like to know how true my
info is as to the longevity of these engines.

Since you want to preheat your vegetable oil tank & probably want to do this
on the cheap, I have an idea but don't know how good it is. Get a heating
element from an old electric stove. They require 220 volts & my guess is
they regulate the temperature by the amount of voltage applied to the
element. Somehow, securely attach the electric stove element to the bottom
of the veggie fuel tank & apply 110 volts. Just an idea. Tell me what is
wrong with my idea as I might want to try it some day.

I have a guy around here who is the volvo authority who only deals in
used bricks.. I've bought a 240 from him in the past and thats all he
drives are early bricks. I asked him about the diesel brick and he
tells me they are a very rare car, I guess they were only imported a
couple years, but he said they are a very dependable engine, he didn't
mention if they were a vw truck engine though

Applying lower voltage to an element than required is a bad idea. if
your going to do that, just get a 110 volt element from a water heater
and a temp controller. if this is going in an in car tank, just use a
block heater. and make sure you don't run either dry as they can and
will burn out.

What is the possibility of putting a VW diesel engine into a Subaru 1984
AWD?
