RE Calif. CARB smog regulations. You accused the wrong one if you assumed I wasn't trying to do anything about it. I have been a member of our Nevada County Democratic Central Committee for 14 years, & one of the main reasons I am active is to fight the influence of the "Smog Nazi's", i.e. the environmental extremists & to do what I can to protect the car hobby. I usually attend the Democratic State Convention each year & one year, the Sierra Club had a booth at the convention to recruit members. When they asked me if I wanted to join, I said NO! I then proceeded to vent my anger with the Calif. smog check program & the Sierra Club's anti diesel stance. I haven't seen them since, & I am on the look out for them!
I am also active in the Association of Calif. Car Clubs or ACCC, www.acccdefender.org which is a lobbying organization whose mission is to try & protect the old car hobby against the unintended consequences of smog regulations & other legislation related to the automobile. I have frequently been critical to the extent I think I can get away with representatives from the Calif. Air Resources Board or CARB who is largely responsible for these reprehensible regulations & the BAR or Bureau of Automotive Repair whose mission is to enforce the smog regulations, when they speak at the annual ACCC meetings in Sacramento. I also take every opportunity I can to buttonhole legislatress as well as candidates for state or federal office on how I feel. If the rest of the Calif. car hobbyists out there would get active in the ACCC as well as the their local Republican or Democrat political organizations, like the NRA does for gun lovers, we wouldn't have the problems of being able to get the cars we want in the USA & to a lesser extent, Canada, since they tend to give into our governments wishes too often.
It is not my intention to turn this into a political discussion other than to encourage you to get active in politics to protect our hobby. If you go to a major auto swap meet in Calif. you will see thousands but at our ACCC annual meetings we only get about 50 to 60 attendees who care enough about our hobby to try & protect it against government laws & regulations. Sorry, you hit a sore spot with me. Please where ever you live, try to find an organization whose mission is to protect the car hobby. Also, write your state & federal senator & congressmen or in Canada your Canadian equivalent to save the hobby.
