Nick, I just wanted to say THANKS again for taking the
time out of your work day to meet myself and my family
on our way home from Wilmington, NC.
We took a different route north off Rt. 40 to get to
meet Nick and see his Eco Jetta as well as the jet
engines that he is responsible for repairing and
maintaining at Seymour Air Force Base in NC. It was a
good 100 degrees most of that day, so driving was not
fun. We got a break from the heat by touring his work
area hanger with the very expensive jet engines in
them as well as got to see some jets close up as they
took off and landed.
We made it back to NJ and I realized in the last 1/2
hour of our trip that something was not right in my
van, but made it back to my driveway. Opened a beer
to toast the Westy for it's 1,300 mile journey as the
sound I heard sounded like a cracked lifter (again)
It turned out to be my water pump. Both upper 2 bolts
holding alt. bracket and water pump to block had
loosened up and I would not have made it another 20
miles without loosing all of my coolant and worse.
Why? It's a VW and wants CONSTANT care I guess. All
fixed, all is fine.
Thanks again Nick, it was great to meet another VW nut
like me, hope to spend some more time with you on
another trip or you are welcome to swing my by home
shop in NJ.
