Thanks all once again for all the info. Turns out the wire was broken under the insulation right at the crimp. I pulled off the push on connector and shorted it to ground, gauge showed hot beyond anything I'd like to see driving (no resistance) so I checked the sending unit and some resistance (ambient temp?). As the car heated up it decreased. If it wasn't for the weather I had I should have noted the values of the sending unit for future troubleshooting. So sending unit ok, gauge ok mmmmmm. So as I pulled the connector off once again it seemed kind of limp so with a slight tug the connector pulled right off. On my gauge test when I pushed the connector to ground I pushed the break point back together and when I tugged the wire to make certain it was on the terminal I re-opened the connection.
So I will still need to pull the speedo cluster out to repair the trip odometer and not sure what to do about the oil warning system. I know there were several threads earlier about it so I'll start there.
Thanks again - Terry
