[Vwdiesel] I finally got to cranking down the head bolts and setting injection timing on my 92 Eco TD

Hey all, just wondering if what I am seeing is normal,
I have seen hints of it in past post over the years.
I set the timing perfect with pump bolts lose, just
lose enough to move pump. Here is what I am doing

1. I tighten pump bolts and turn the motor clockwise
two complete rotations and stop at TDC
2. pre-load the dial gauge
3. turn motor counter-clockwise until needle stops
moving
4. move dial gauge on shaft to set it back to zero
5. move engine clockwise back to TDC

I check again and it goes from .0395" to .0410" or
abouts. I did it like 3 times, same thing. So, the
pump is moving when I torque the 3 bolts/nuts and the
back squeeze holder bolt.

So, I need to set it below where I want it to end up,
like .0385", then when I tighten the bolts and rotate
the motor 2 times and check again it will be where I
would like it to be, between .0395" and .0400" or
between 1.003mm and 1.016mm

Am I splitting hairs here, I am sitting at .0410 or
1.041mm now, should I leave it there, run it for
1000miles and when I give my head bolts the extra 1/4
crank down, then check timing again and reset if
needed????????

Thanks, Bryan
