[Vwdiesel] brake problem

Continuing to do some research into this issue.  For the record, I
believe my pads and rotor are good.  (They were new just 14000 miles
ago.) Also, the pads are pretty thick.  I didn't measure them last
night, but I would guess they are at almost 1/2 inch thick (from
memory).

So, assuming that I didn't make some really absent-minded mistake
mistake such as putting the pads on with the pad facing out, rather than
in toward the rotor, it seems to me that the culprit most likely is the
lack of brake pad grease.  With the addition of the anti-rattle springs,
pads are a little tighter fitting.  I'm guessing that the pads might be
screeching as they travel back and forth now.  Is that a possibility?
