Bleeding is simply a matter of pulling the return line banjo
fitting from the top of the pump (non turbo) and making sure
the pump is full of fuel (pour in clean fuel as necessary). Then
crank until it's clear and runs. Usually two or three 15 second
cranking sessions. Linkage is simply pushing the cold start
knob in and then checking the lever behind the pump. The
lever should be all the way against its stop. Loosen the screw
adjust and retighten if needed.
Sounds more like the timing's off, maybe a low compression
cylinder, bad injector or such.
