Your friend's info is correct, but there are a few assumptions being
made in that statement.
10psi for every 1k rpm is great for a tight motor, assuming 2 to 2.5
thou bearing clearances.
When the motor is older, and worn, with intermediate bearings taking
most of the oil, you need a hell of a lot more than what the Volvo
engineer suggests, unless you like walking the fine line between blow or
go, usually the rod bearing furthest from the pump goes first.
