True.
I tend to group things into little piles, like if you resurface the 
head, it gets valves too.  The new exhaust valves are now too long, and 
need to be shorter.  I have a few friends that have experienced this on 
reassembly, and since I own the full shim kit, get to hear the stories 
when they are looking for shims.

No thicker head gasket required, as it is a flat thing.  Making it 
flatter doesn't change much, or change piston protrusion, which is what 
the head gasket thickness deal is for.

I used to kiss motors too, but my wife objects to me coming in at all 
hours from the shop, motor oil on my collar.  She really put her foot 
down.

Yeah, but the few I've assembled with studs sucked back down nicely.
I think the spec for warpage are a tad idealistic.  I agree, it puts 
pretty much every head in the scrap bin, which was fine when heads were 
cheap and plentiful.  Okay, plentiful anyway.  Now they are neither, and 
you HAVE to machine them, or send them out to the aluminum head guys.
