[Vwdiesel] 4-way flasher switch, '84 Quantum

The part of the dash that supports mine has broken, leaving the  
switch playing peekaboo thru the opening in the dash. It looks as if  
it's broken and been epoxied back together once before.

Am I right in thinking that switches of this kind are electrically  
pretty much the same, even if they're shaped differently? I'm  
thinking of moving the switch somewhere else, but that opens up the  
possibility of replacing it also. I see quite an assortment of  
switches for different cars on eBay. One of them is a round  
pushbutton switch that presumably mounts in a round hole. I think I'd  
find it easier to drill a round hole than cut a rectangular one. Does  
the replacement switch even need to have a light in it? I figure that  
between the sound of the relay and my short-term memory, I'd know  
when I was using the 4-way flashers. Thanks.
