[Vwdiesel] Diesel conversions

Since we are talking about diesel conversions, here is
one I'd like to undertake sometime...

Between '89 and '91 or so, Dodge made a few Dakota
convertible pickups.  I am big into convertibles,
diesels (hence the diesel Cabriolet) and would like a
pickup as well.  

Did Dodge (and/or Cummins?) make an engine that would
drop in?  Most of the convertibles I see on ebay have
an automatic trans, though the occasional manual seems
to pop up.  If not a Dodge-original engine, what else
would be a good option to consider?  I don't think the
Dakota's engine compartments are quite as large as the
bigger trucks that had the diesel engines available.
