Sounds like the bettle axles we just did a few weeks
ago on the 70 type1 resto we are doing. The snap ring
is not a normal snap ring, it does not have the holes
at each end of it to grab with snap ring plyers, it is
just an angled taper and you are forced to use 2 small
screw drivers to get in there and move it out of the
grove. It can be tight up against the inner CV joint
hub that holds the 6 balls. It was not fun doing this
on the axle off the bug. We did this of course just
to replace all the CV boots, good thing we are not
factoring how much time we are spending on this resto,
we would be losing money like our gov.t does by the
minute.
Good look, if you have the room, you should be able to
get it. It still took a good effort to get the inner
cv joint hub off the shaft even with the clip off, by
the way, but maybe 81 dasher is better.
