[Vwdiesel] standard acceleration test

Has anyone else heard of a standard acceleration test ? I've heard of 
it, but haven't found any hard copy on it. Supposedly you accelerate 
from 30mph to 60mph in top gear, the resulting time it takes to reach 
60 is an indication of your engines condition.
