[Vwdiesel] Dasher diesel insturment cluster problems

Problem solved. Found it was the voltage stabilizer. Went to my 1980 Dasher diesel parts car. Powered it up with my portable battery jumper & found the fuel gage worked so removed the interment cluster. Found the printed circuit board was damaged & wired installed to bypass the break. Also found the voltage stabilizer was easily removed so put it in my '81 Dasher's instrument cluster. Now everything works. so, some new questions:
1) Looks like the voltage stabilizer is a weak point. Are they expensive to replace & hard to find? If not, looks like it would be a good idea to stock up on a couple. Also, are new printed circuit boards expensive or cheap & easy to find. This would save the instrument cluster I took out of the 1980 Dasher. Is it worthwhile to fix it & put it on the shelf, or should I try to just try & source extra one from a junk yard?
2)Some VW diesels have a tachometer instead of a clock. What VW models & years are interchangeable with my '81 Dasher instrument cluster?
