[Vwdiesel] Smoking Passat

Tell him to pack up the Old Lady and head out in the morning driving
fast for his favorite dinner spot 300 miles away. By the time he gets home
he should have burned off all the oil in the exhaust system. Of course he
could also replace the exhaust system if he doesn't mind spending the money.
Another really bothersome fix might be to take the exhaust system apart and
hot tank it. I detest working on exhaust systems and if that was my only
alternative I would just go to my local muffler man and give him 300 bucks
or so to build a new system.
My mechanic friend and I did an engine replacement in a customers
gas engined Golf a few years ago. He was on a tight budget so we were
installing a used engine. It was an 1800cc gas engine. He had run the engine
long after it should have been dead. The engine compartment was an oily
mess. Apparently the exhaust system was full of oil because when we put the
used engine in we were sick since it smoked terribly. We thought we would
have to find another engine to put in it but after running it an hour or so
it started to clear up. We drove it around for a day or so and by the time
we sent it back to the customer he was happy as can be with it.

Subject: Re: [Vwdiesel] Smoking Passat
My friend has a Passat with a turbo that apparantly developed an oil leak in
the turbo and saturated the exhaust system with oil. They rebuilt the turbo
but it still smokes bad enough to get pulled over by local police. Any
suggestions to burn it off?
