Yes, I love listening to the Car Guys on NPR, but they
are just fun to listen to. They are great at telling
you how to fix a rattle in the rear tail gate of an
AMC Pacer or Gremlin, they know old MB diesel and may
know a little about 1.6 VW motors, but they have
little hands on experience with TDI or common rail
other then what they hear around the watering hole and
reading.

BTW, my 04 TDI PD has gotten a consistent 46 MPG from
new, it now has 81K on it and I am ready to do first
belt change that is due at 100K, according to the
owners manual...I will do my belts at 90K
I do not think the earlier TDI's with pump's did
better on MPG than these and the timing belt change
interval was like 40K or 60K, but not more. Ouch.
It was surprisingly low.

I do like the car guys and wish I could make money
talking on the radio about old VW's :>
