[Vwdiesel] POLYMERIZED ENGINE OIL

WW 1 aircraft used copious quantities of Castor oil for Lube. 

I believe the rotary engines (fixed crankshaft, rotating cylinders and
crankcase)
like the LeRhone, "wasted" the oil like a 2 stroke, out the exhaust.

Single pass.

Spending a day downwind of the exhaust in the open cockpit was a good
antidote for the effects of fine french cuisine (why the pilots were regular
fellows)

Might have explained the need for the "open cockpit"
