absolutely
no question that ultimately energy and matter are conserved
but here we are on earth at this particular moment in time, and the  
sun, and gravity, and plants, and tectonic activity etc have done all  
this work for us, and the question is, what is the big boulder  
sitting up on the top of a cliff that we can most easily push off?
(I like old restaurant grease - that pushes nice)
