[Vwdiesel] Muffler Replacement - Any Reason Not to Replace with Stock

Continuing renovation of 82 Rabbit.  Car only has rear muffler and it
needs replacing.  Parts catalog shows a primary muffler in middle of
exhaust system.

 

1.)   Is there any reason to choose something other than the stock rear
muffler (price, performance)?

2.)   Will the noise reduction be noticeable if I add the primary
muffler which is currently not on the car?
