To drive the glow plugs, an intermittent duty Ford starter solenoid from 
any ford truck built in the 70's and 80's will more than do the job. 
Tell him it's the one on the fenderwell under the hood that you want.
A continuous duty relay of the right size is like 50 bucks at least. 
The ford unit should be a tenth of that.

Maybe if you go back, the Mom will just sell you one.  Or you might be 
able to trick the scruffy teenagers into selling you the right one...
