[Vwdiesel] Diesel Tachometer in an older VW

I've thought about putting a crank position sensor on the Cam gear, as a last ditch effort. However, I'm sort of hoping there is some sort of easy divider device or otherwise I can use. Although, the cam position sensor would be more accurate. And, I do have a bunch of misc crank position sensors left over from various engine replacements/swaps. But, I'll go that route only if I have to. I've completely rewired the car with a generic wiring harness/fusebox. And, I still have the stereo, vent modification, wiring for the heater controls, etc. So, I'm not looking to put a bunch of time into this right now, just hoping for something simple I can buy.

As for the speedo, I've got the theory figured out. I just have to figure out the mechanicals. The speedo cable in my car has a bracket on the end with a screw holding it into the trans. VW has several different styles of electronic senders that mount to their transmissions, and they all opperate off a gear just like the cable does. It's just a matter of which setup will allow the easiest mounting to the trans.

And, thanks for the compliment, Kneale.

Tony

Being the whizz you are, Tony, I'd think you could figure out some sort of hall sensor devices to supply the signals you need to make the speedo and tacho operate appropriately. Maybe one reading crank spins and one reading output shaft spins???
