Wouldn't worry to much about the cable. If it is a really big deal for you then before starting you can open the hood and flip the lever with a long flat screw driver, start and then flip back after it warms up a bit. I don't need the cable if I plug in my rabbit but I do start to use it if under 40 degrees, not plugged in or warm so I don't smoke out the block. If -20 degrees and nothing warmed up you will almost have to for sure put the lever in cold start position, but at that temp you can just leave it on then. Won't hurt much if you don't use the lever providing you can get it started as that is all it does as aids the starting.
