You CAN make an electric drag car, an ethanol-powered drag car, a jet dragster, a propane drag car, a rocket-powered sled and so on. Heck, some fools even use one of the more idiotic fuels of all - gasoline. The truth is that none of the above qualifies an energy source to be used in the real world. The key (as I hope you gathered from my example) is the trillions of dollars of infrastructure already in place and REQUIRED to support that particular use of energy.
In other words, there is diesel and to some long-term extent, bio-diesel) as a viable alternative, and then there is nothing. So why waste valuable resources fooling around with pipe dreams?
Develop better fuel and fuel; use strategies for the one true multi-fuel engine that already fits within the system.
