[Vwdiesel] Brake boost failure

I am following this discussion with great interest since my 1982 Quantum TD has the same problem. My Quantum's vacuum pump is of a vane type & oil was present when I removed the pump to look at it. Not sure whether there was an O ring between the pump & the block. I would assume some oil has to be present for lubrication of the rotor & vanes. Could this be a cause for a lack of vacuum to the brake booster? Or could the brake booster need repair (If so, how do you do it?) or replacement? I don't think when VW designed these cars they expected us to be driving them for 25, 30, or more years. In Europe, I understand, that a car older than 10 years old is considered old & of little value. You who live in the UK & the rest of Europe, please correct me if I am wrong, or elaborate on this.
