I, too have heard that a MB pump is a better design for vegetable oil
because it's inline rather than rotary. Though I must say that 20,000 is
still awfully low miles to talk about how bullet-proof it is. Those pumps go
for MUCH longer than that on regular diesel, so 'proof' to me would be
something like 100,000-200,000 miles. Then it's still just one person's
experience, but it's better.
Not that I doubt what you've seen with your vehicle, but I've seen a lot of
people claiming that "diesels run GREAT on straight vegetable oil - I've
been running mine for one month now, and it's never been better." Or
something to that effect. I want to see people run them for many hundreds of
thousands of miles before starting to brag about them. Though with the price
difference of the fuel the risk might be worth it. But people should know
the possible risk they are running.
