[Vwdiesel] Bad oil change experience.

Oh geez. <<begin rant>>
I learned today why I've been doing my own oil changes these last 4 years.
I just moved this week and needed to get the old Audi an oil change, but
have no drip pan, and little time the next couple weeks. So I got a quote
for a Mobil 1 oil change at the 'Grease Monkeys' down the street. The price
wasn't much more than what I'd pay for the oil, filter, and a drip pan
so I went for it today after work. I'd sold myself on getting a synthetic
oil change for the Audi, as I'd noticed it hadn't been burning or dripping
much oil between changes.
I asked the first guy i talked to if they had Mobil 1 15w-50, he didn't know
and asked the crew leader, who assured me they did. I said, great, and went
to wait in the waiting room. When i set up my ticket in the office I again
mentioned I wanted the full syntetic, Mobil 1 15w-50 or 15w-40. Once my car
came up I had a clear view of the pit, and noticed as they started putting
in the Mobil 1 5-30w. I went out and told the guy that was the wrong oil,
that I wanted 15w-50, Mobil 1. He said alright, and the crew leader came
over, drained the oil, and got the guy set up and started putting Delo
15w-40 in the car. I thought, "maybe they're flushing the car before they
put in the real stuff?," but then noticed they were putting in another
quart. I asked the crew leader why they weren't putting in Mobil 1, and he
said they were. I told him that was Delo, not mobil 1, and that I could buy
the delo for $10 a gallon at Schucks... He told me they didn't have that
weight (15w-50), but that the Delo was a full synthetic.
The argument went on, though we both remained friendly. I really try not to
be 'that guy', arguing with service employees, but I was feeling pretty
pissed about my car! I asked to not pay for a synthetic oil change, as I
wasn't getting synthetic oil. He complied, but I was still pissed about
them almost putting the entirely wrong weight oil in. I talked with the
manager, who continued to maintain that Delo was full Synthetic, and they
hadn't gotten their full Mobil 1 order.
I ended up asking if I could come back for a synthetic oil change when they
got some oil in. The manager said he'd get the oil tomorrow.
<<end rant>>
Sorry for the long post, I guess I'm just amazed at how frustratingly easy
it is to get such bad service. And it's a big reminder for why I try to do
all my own maintenance. I guess I'll need to go ahead and buy a new drip
pan...
thanks for the free therapy,
