[Vwdiesel] The sad story continues..... Brake problems

  A bad hose can cause dragging brakes by having a flap in there 
that works as a check valve not allowing the brakes to retract.  
If your E-brake is a tad tight then it'll drag, heat up, things 
expand and drag more, heat more, etc.  A lot of times that's more 
a bad (not horrible, just old, dirty and a bit stiff) brake cable.  
The adjuster is simply a wedge with gravity and a spring pulling 
it down.  You don't want grease on it but otherwise it'd be awfully 
hard for it to fail or work improperly. 
  The master cylinder CAN refuse to allow full pressure release if 
the free play isn't enough.  The plunger on the pedal assy is adjusted 
too long, not allowing the piston to fully retract, resulting in residual 
line pressure.
  I suppose a piece of crap could be in that wheel cylinder working as 
a check valve but that's not too likely.
  That's about all the options I can think of tright off to make the 
brakes drag.
